Below are some of the competitions which it is thought would be useful for our members to consider entering.  The Calendar has been split into two sections, the first is local competitions that will have a stronger relevance to junior members. The second section is the fuller events calendar that the wider club will be interested.

However, for fullest information on competitions please refer to the Welsh Fencing and British Fencing Calendars for full listings.

It is also suggested that if more than one fencer would like to go, that parent/adults, could consider sharing transport, both for cost and companionship reasons.

All members can choose which competitions to enter and experienced senior fencers will know what competitions would suit them best.  However, if any member would like any advice on what competition to enter, please do not hesitate to contact any of the coaches.

Please give yourselves plenty of time when entering to ensure your place. Open competitions often have a closing date around 2 weeks in advance, though late entry may still be possible. If you need help please ask.

Leon Paul Junior Series
These are a series of competitions sponsored by Leon Paul around the UK. The season for these competitions runs between January and December. There are a good number of competitions in this series and they cover all three weapons, with the age group ranging from Under 17 down to Under 9. Again this competition is ideal for beginners, but there are often more experienced fencers competing as well. In these competitions a fencer receives points depending where they are ranked at the end of the competition. A fencers’ best 4 results are added together at the end of the season, and a fencer is ranked overall. The higher ranked fencers at the end of the season win prizes. Any ranking in this competition will also help a fencer in their initial ranking for the British Youth Championships.

North West Junior Series
These are a series of competitions sponsored by British Fencing North West Region. They are ideal for beginners, giving the fencer and their parents some experience in what happens at competitions. Follow the link for full information.

Wrexham and Cheshire Schools
These are organised and run by Wrexham Fencing Club as combination of weapons competitions, for Junior Girls and Boys. They are ideal for beginners, giving the fencer and their parents some experience in what happens at competitions. Wrexham Fencing Club organises 2 of these competitions each year depending on the national events calendar.

British Youth Championships
This competition happens once a year and all three weapons have their own Championships. The foil normally takes place in January and the Epee and Sabre normally take place in February. They normally take place in Stoke. The age groups for these competitions range from Under 18, down to Under 12. You have to qualify for these Championships by competing in a regional qualifying competition. If you finish in the top four of the regional qualifying competition, then you qualify for the Championships.

Wrexham Open
Organised and run by Wrexham Fencing Club this is a national 6 weapon Open competition. This event is next to take place Saturday/Sunday 9/10th June 2013. For 2013/2012/2011 results click here.
